Summer 2007 Newsletter
Although many of you will either be going on holiday soon, or will have just got back, it is not too long
now until the new season begins. As the Club continues to grow – there will be seven teams in the
league this year – we are conscious that it is important to ensure that we continue to keep everyone
up to date with what is happening.
Hopefully most of you will have received this Newsletter by e-mail, but if you haven’t please let the
relevant team secretary know your e-mail address (if you have one) as soon as possible, since this is
the easiest way to communicate.
The Club was fortunate to have chosen a fine day again for the 3rd AGM and Fun Day, and we are
pleased to have received lots of positive feedback from the afternoon. Please do let the Committee
have any comments concerning how the afternoon could be improved, or any changes that you
would like to see for another year.
The Club would like to extend a warm welcome to those who have volunteered for new roles, in
particular Sue Smith and Rachel Hopper who will be looking after the new under-7 team, Lorraine
Cheesley who has offered to co-ordinate the training kits, Kate Berwick who will be the new Child
Protection Officer, Dan Leigh and Viv Gay who have taken on the team secretary duties for the
under-10s, and to a keen group of website experts who will be helping to relaunch the Club’s online
presence.

2006/07 Sportsmanship Awards
As many of you will be aware, each team is required to mark the opposition at the end of every
league match. Marks are awarded to both the opposition players, and also to the opposition officials
and supporters, to reflect their behaviour, sportsmanship and … during the match. At the end of the
season, the league publishes tables showing how all the teams have scored.
Three years ago next season’s under-10 team was one of the highest-scoring teams, giving their
players the opportunity to play at the County Ground, and two years ago next season’s under-12
team achieved the highest mark in the league. The Club is delighted to say that last season was
probably the best yet in terms of the sportsmanship results, with all teams scoring very highly.
Particular mention must however go to the under-8 team (managed by Simon James and Per-Axel
Worensjo) which achieved the highest mark – and received a large trophy – in their age group; the
under-11 team which

Team news
Under-7 Team (Manager: Sue Smith – 791463, Coach: Rachel Hopper)
Sue and Rachel have already done an excellent recruiting job for the youngest league team: twelve
players have already registered and there could be another three before the season starts on 9
September.
Under-8 Team (Manager: Angela Raymond – 791225, Coach: Dave Berwick)
It is not long since the team finished training after an exciting first season in the league, and two very
enjoyable tournaments. Training is due to start again on 2 September, ready for the first league
match the following week. The team is very short of players, so if you know of anyone else who will
be in Year 3 and enjoys their football, please let Angela know.
Under-9 Team (Manager: Simon James – 791287, Coaches: Per-Axel Worensjo, Jay Frederick)
“Big congratulations” to the coaches, parents and boys of last year’s under-8 team for winning the
sportsmanship award for their age group – a superb achievement. The first match of the season is
on 2 September at Pewsham (near Chippenham), with training starting on Monday 27 August from
6pm to 7pm at the Rec.
Under-10 Team (Manager: Andy Bryant – 790877, Coach: Andre Smague)
The under-9 team had a long hard season, and have another tough campaign coming up with
fourteen teams in their division. We'll be running training twice a week on Tuesday evenings and
Sunday mornings. Training will start at the Rec on Tuesday 7 August at 6pm and on Sunday 12
August at 10am. Please put these dates in your diaries!
Under-11 (Manager: Shaun Hobbs – 791435)
After playing a few competitive 11-a-side friendlies at the end of the season, training for the under-10
team will start on 14 August from 7pm to 8pm at the Rec. There will also be an hour’s training on the
following Sunday, starting at 10am.
Under-12 (Manager: Rob Reeves – 791465)
Well done to the Wasps’ under-11 team who ended the season by reaching the final of the White
Horse tournament on 8 July. The most exciting game was the semi-final which went to a penalty
shoot-out. Just when the Wasps needed a hero, up stepped Jonny Mullins to score his first goal for
the Club. The final was another good performance, with the Wasps losing a closely fought game by
a single goal. A great ending to the season and well done to all of the squad.
Under-13 (Manager: Jon Raymond – 791225, Coaches: Lee Herring and Pete Brittain)
It’s a scary thought that they’ll be teenagers next season! As the team is in a small division, all the
league matches could be over before the spring monsoon, so there could be a few friendlies or minileagues
in the new year. Training will start at the Rec at 7pm on Thursday 16 August.
Best wishes to all the teams in the league next season!
Don’t forget that you can keep fully up to date with the progress of all the teams by selecting the
